With all this bother and questioning about the political sta-

tus of even obviously British fire and persons, I think I might with advantage add a few words as to my om Company.

Rehdere let the

as the recommendations of the Hong kong Governor and the Colonial Office

olearly show (i.e. that we should appeiat you our agents), there is no

question whatever us to cur status in regard to this Hongkong and Can-

ton business, or as to any other. You have a copy of the letter con-

taining these recommendations, dated Downing Street the 4th January last.

In the Company has been trading with German iims, before the
